Morning run. The weather app said 14* so I dressed for that half way through I was peeling layers off. I think it was more like 30-35* Bill Rodgers race was cancelled so I ran in the hood instead. Was fun, but challenging running in the snow still on the roads somewhat like running in sand. Beautiful morning for a run.

I stand corrected..

The weather has turned...

Governor Deval Patrick initiated a travel ban, at first for 2 pm, but most recently 4 pm. When I left work it was much worse than it looked. In the front parking lot it looked pretty mild. In the rear parking lot, however, I found about an inch of snow on my car. And driving was pretty treacherous at times. Stopping and starting up a hill, for example leaving work turning onto 27 my wee car was not happy. Route 27 to 111 was not much fun either, oh the joys of not having control of your vehicle.

the guy at the package store was chastising me for driving in such conditions. I explained I was on my way home from work, and uh hem aren't you at work??? Then he went into the statistics of accidents close to home...ok already...I'm leaving...

Other news..Marshfield has been asked to voluntarily evacuate and it's actually a crime to drive right now...hmmm...

Slip Sliding Away

Foggy, slippery morning. Delays, cancellations...I couldn't understand why. Then I slid to my car, oooh now I understand, luckily I had nothing in my arms, or I do believe I would have been on the ground. the warmer temperatures feel wonderful though.

First Run in a week

The cold weather has kept me off the road this week, but I got out this morning. Accuweather said 20 degrees. Was still cold despite double layer of socks and gloves. My eyes were watering from the brisk cold air. Felt good being out again. The pond was frozen with several frozen rings visible as if water ripples froze in place. I am always impressed by the quietness in the air during these morning runs. Still and quiet.  One can never have too much nature.

On contemplating the life of ice ...

It's frigid outside negative numbers with the windchill, yet I ordered an ice cold beer. The glasses are so cold the beer foams and ice floes form. Looking somewhat like an iceberg. At moments the ice twists and turns and mini explosions occur in the fluid sending bits of ice twirling. It's rather interesting to watch. Makes me wish I knew more, or remembered more about science and natural phenomenon.

Concord River

The Concord River in early January. The river was so stunning I had to stop and admire it. Sometimes nature is just to inspiring to ignore and begs for you stop and take a moment to marvel at it's beauty. 

I've heard people say winter depresses them. When the snow is flung to the side of road collecting dirt and pollution, maybe. I look at the frozen landscape and am in awe of the changes in nature. The trees are barren, the air is cold, and ice forms on the river banks. In a few months buds will form and the lush greenery will return. The cycle of nature impresses me. I stand in awe of it everyday.

I want to spend everyday in nature. My greatest friend.
